This booklet was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the invention of the incandescent electric lamp by Edison in 1879. It presents an illustrated story of the evolution of lighting beginning with oil lamps dating from 4000 B.C. to the 1920's. Models are dressed in period costumes and depicted in period settings with authentic lighting devices from the collection of the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum of San Francisco. Promotes the healthy (non-glare) and flattering light possible when using modern electric lighting.
