A mid-century modern gunmetal gray/black monochrome pottery jug or ewer vase by Dagnaes Keramik of Denmark. It measures about 8" to the top of the applied handle. The external surface is decorated with very fine vertical grooves which are very tactile - this pot begs to be touched. The inscribed script signature“Dagnaes” is on the base along with the foil sticker for the Danish retailer Illums Bolighus. The simple yet elegant biomorphic shape would make this a wonderful addition to any collection of Scandinavian modern art pottery. One on-line source lists this pottery as being in operation from circa 1930 to 1945.
Condition: There is a tiny depression on the inner lip of the short spout [see close-up photo]. Under magnification the clay that forms the spout has almost a volcanic surface so I am not sure if this is a chip or “as made”. There is also a short fissure in the side of the handle near the bottom that is very straight and uniform and also appears to be “as made”. I do not see any chips or cracks.
