This ornate rectangular picture frame was made by the Barbour Silver Plate Co, a division of the International Silver Co. It measures 10" x 13" with a 6.75" x 9.5" opening. The 3481 repousse design features scrolls and flowers - the parts in the deepest relief are the two vases at the center of either side. This beautiful frame is waiting for your most treasured photograph. According to Rainwater the half-circle Barbour mark was not used until 1921 so this is not quite antique. There is a sturdy ring at the upper back for hanging on the wall. The 9.75" x 11.75" original back is present but there is no glass. The spring hidden within the bottom margin of the frame holds the backing in place securely. This is heavy for its size - a little more than 2 lbs unwrapped.
Condition: Good condition with slight loss of the silver plating at the highest parts of the design exposing the brass or copper base metal and two shallow dents on the right side panel that are not readily apparent due to the intricate design. The sides and back of the frame are heavily tarnished. The green plush covering is almost entirely missing on the back which is also stained [no appreciable odor]. The easel is still present but the hinge feels weak. No glass. Displays beautifully. Please examine photos closely for condition issues and let me know if you have any questions.
