A beautiful old glass dresser jar or puff box with a gilt metal lid featuring a swirling art nouveau floral design. I do not know what the metal content is but the detail and surface finish are excellent. The gilt surface underneath the shoulder has a soft velvety feel. The metal on the slightly domed top is a bronze color. I have looked it over carefully but do not find a maker’s mark. The glass jar has a ground and polished base - the design is pressed, not cut. There are some straw marks on the base and also some imperfections from where it was removed from the mold which I tried unsuccessfully to photograph. The top opening measures 2 5/8" in diameter (outside measurement). With the lid in place it measures about 4.5" in height. There is very slight movement with the lid in place - I believe the lid is original to the jar (the proportions look correct).
Condition: There is patination to the metal, a few surface scratches to the glass and the manufacturing flaws already mentioned. I don’t see any chips although it is hard to rule it out completely with such an ornate pattern. There is also some surface dirt on the jar that I didn’t notice until now.
